Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue Files, 1966-1987.

Ecumenical and interreligious dialogue files (1966-1987) contain correspondence, dialogue minutes and agenda, memoranda, reports, papers and presentations, participant lists, publicity material and news clippings, dialogue evaluations and proposals, final statements and agreements, financial documents, and publications regarding dialogues of which the Division co-sponsored or participated. Church bodies involved in these discussions are from the Baptist, Conservative/Evangelical, Episcopal, Jewish, United Methodist, Orthodox, and Reformed traditions. Also included are files concerning a "Lutherans in Ecumenical Dialogue" project conducted by a nine member task force and staffs of the Division of Theological Studies and Lutheran World Ministries, to examine and evaluate the bilateral national dialogues since 1963. Involving Lutherans with Reformed, Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and Episcopalians. In addition, the collection contains an ecumenical survey, prepared by the Division in 1975, which identifies various types of Lutheran involvement in local/regional ecumenical theological exchange in the United States. Correspondents include Lutheran Council in the USA (LCUSA) General Secretaries C. Thomas Spitz, George F. Harkins, and John R. Houck; LCUSA, Division of Theological Studies Executive Secretaries ARnold E. Carlson, Fred W. Meuser, Paul D. Opsahl, and Joseph A. Burgess; LCUSA participating church body presidents and representatives; Lutheran and other church body dialogue participants; ecumenical institute officials; U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation, Lutheran World Ministries, and Lutheran World. Federation officials; and Lutheran pastors and lay persons.
